3 sentenced to 10 years for killing dogs in Ankara

Ankara, Turkey – On Monday, an Ankara court handed down 10-year sentences to three defendants charged with poisoning stray dogs, in one of the harshest sentences for such a crime in recent memory.

The three men went on trial for the incident that took place in April 2019, in the capital’s Batıkent district, in which 13 stray dogs, as well as three more owned by one of the plaintiffs in the case, were found dead in an empty lot. An investigation revealed that the dogs had consumed chicken meat laced with pesticide.
