Dog lies on disabled owner, protects her from flames while trapped in house fire

ROSEVILLE, CA – A brave dog from California is being hailed as a hero for staying with her disabled owner during a house fire and protecting her from the intense flames.

David Hoffman reunited with his 8-year-old dog, Maya, on Monday outside the Veterinary Specialty Hospital in Roseville.

The dog is still recovering from burns sustained while shielding Hoffman’s wife from a house fire. She suffered injuries to her body and mouth, likely from licking her owner as the flames drew nearer.

Hoffman explained that Maya’s actions were crucial, as she lay on top of his wife, shielding her from severe burns and ultimately saving her life.
