Hero dog who saved troops fighting al-Qaeda in Afghanistan receives animal Victoria Cross

UK – Hero special forces dog who charged through a hail of gunfire to take out Al Qaeda sniper and save his handlers in Afghanistan is presented with the animal equivalent of Victoria Cross.

Kuno, a Belgian shepherd malinois, was shot several times during the operation. The brave dog is first UK military working dog to be fitted with custom prosthetic limb. Now retired, Kuno has been awarded the PDSA Dickin Medal for his devotion to duty – equal to the Victoria Cross, the highest award in the British honours system.
