TACOMA, WA – The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department has welcomed a new K-9 officer, Smokey, a Belgian Malinois born in March 2023.
Smokey is trained as a bomb detection dog, skilled in identifying seven types of explosives through a 400-hour course. His responsibilities include inspecting unattended packages, conducting bomb sweeps, and gathering evidence.
The new K-9 thrives in various environments, demonstrating independence and a strong work ethic. When off duty, he enjoys playing with toys and spending time with his handler, Deputy Roland.
