HAYS COUNTY, TX – The Hays County Sheriff’s Office recently recruited its first therapy dog.
Mirko, the therapy dog, is part of HCSO’s Mental Health Unit. He will be deployed to help some going through mental health crises calm down, said Mohmmad Zaqzouq, a deputy with HCSO.
Mirko, handled by Deputy Mohmmad Zaqzouq, helps calm individuals in mental health crises and supports victims during sensitive interviews.
Zaqzouq proposed the idea for a therapy dog due to Mirko’s calm demeanor and training. In his short time on the job, Mirko has already made a difference by building rapport and trust with those in distress.
Zaqzouq emphasizes that therapy dogs are valuable because they provide non-judgmental support, free from biases or beliefs.
