RICHMOND, VA – The Richmond SPCA is helping pets affected by Hurricane Helene by taking in 150 evacuated dogs and cats from Yancey County Humane Society and Mitchell County Animal Control, both of which faced severe flooding.
While the focus has been on helping displaced residents, SPCA staff emphasized the community’s support for affected pets. In addition to sheltering the animals, a volunteer will deliver supplies to the impacted areas, and some animals will be cared for by the SPCA, while others will be transferred to partner organizations across Virginia.
