WATCH: The oldest guide dog school is in N.J. and it’s changing the lives of thousands

Morristown, N.J. – Tucked away in the historic Washington Valley in Morristown sits a group of buildings situated behind a tall, brick gate. The engraved plaque on the brick reads, “The Seeing Eye, founded 1929.” Residents of Morristown may not be aware that The Seeing Eye—the oldest guide dog school in the country—is here, but they can surely feel its presence throughout town. 

On any given day, trainers and students can be seen briskly pacing the sidewalks surrounding the Morristown Green with a dog at their side. We spent a couple of days documenting the trained professionals and volunteers that play a prominent role in raising the dogs before they are paired with someone who is blind or visually impaired.
