JCPD celebrates retiring K9 who served 11 years

JUNCTION CITY, KS  – The Junction City Police Department is celebrating the retirement of its companion – K9 Barney.

JCPD organized a retirement celebration for Barney on Friday, Sept. 6, to wish him a relaxing retirement.

Barney spent 11 years with JCPD all of which were spent with his handler, Officer Blake. He will turn 13 years old on Halloween, Oct. 31. 

Barney earned several awards during his career from the Heart of America Police Dog Association including numerous narcotics cases of the year awards, such as detector dog awards and a patrol dog award.
