Las Vegas non-profit promotes therapy dogs to help kids on the witness stand

LAS VEGAS, NV – A Las Vegas non-profit business said they are trying to unleash certified therapy dogs on local courtrooms to assist victims on the witness stand.

The non-profit, Courtroom Critters, plans to introduce therapy dogs into local courtrooms to support child witnesses. Working alongside UNLV’s Kid’s Court School, the initiative aims to ease anxiety and help children understand legal proceedings. Led by Professor Rebecca Nathanson, the program highlights the critical role of children’s testimony in court cases.

Therapy dogs have proven effective in reducing stress for young witnesses, despite Nevada not yet allowing their use in court—a legislative change Courtroom Critters hopes to influence.
