Rags, the stolen deaf dog from Alabama home, has been found in Arizona

Silverhill, AL – A 2-year-old English Sheepdog named Rags, stolen from Olivia Gardner’s home in Silverhill, Alabama, was reunited with his family after more than a year of searching.

Rags went missing in December 2023, and Gardner had installed a Ring Doorbell just before the theft, which captured footage of a masked man taking the dog. Despite the Silverhill Police’s efforts, Rags was not found, but Gardner never gave up hope.

In December 2024, Gardner received a FaceTime call from a man in Arizona, where Rags had been found by the Maricopa Police Department. The dog was safely recovered, and Gardner quickly traveled to Arizona to bring him home.

Gardner had adopted Rags from a couple in Fairhope in 2023, but they later attempted to reclaim him through a lawsuit. The case was dismissed after the couple acknowledged Rags had been stolen. Authorities confirmed that the individuals with Rags in Arizona were connected to his original owners.

The theft investigation is ongoing, with suspects identified across several states. Gardner, who adopted Rags in 2023, emphasizes the importance of microchipping pets for safe returns.
