‘Viva Pancho’ – Rescue dog in northern New Mexico protects family from intruder

ESPAÑOLA, N.M. – From rescued, to rescuer. A northern New Mexico dog who was given a second chance is now being credited for saving his adoptive family from a suspect who broke into their home and had a knife. “He’s a hero. This dog is a hero,” said Director of Communications at Española Humane Mattie Allen.

That hero is Pancho, who was rescued from Española Humane eight years ago and now may have saved his family’s life. “Poncho recognized that the person was an intruder and he started to protect the home and his family,” said Allen.
