Murphy the therapy dog, bringing smiles to patients at Children’s Wisconsin

WAUWATOSA, Wis. – A four-legged golden doodle is among one of the most popular visitors at Children’s Wisconsin Hospital. The 7-year-old pup named Murphy is bringing a smile and comfort to children at the hospital.

@childrenswi Hi, I’m Murphy and I’ve been doing dog therapy at Children’s Wisconsin with my mom, Lori, for two whole years now! It’s my absolute favorite. Everyone here is my best friend. Fun fact: did you know my mom retired from nursing after 34 years at Children’s Wisconsin? Pretty neat, huh? She saw the impact dogs like me had on kiddos, families and even the staff during her time as a nurse, and she knew EXACTLY what she wanted to do when she retired … get me and train me to be a therapy dog! PS: If you see me around the hospital, I love head, back and belly scratches 😉💙. #ChildrensWisconsin #TherapyDogs #Volunteer #DogsofTikTok ♬ Chillest in the Room – L.Dre

“Murphy is one of about 18 therapy dog teams, we’re a team here at Children’s Hospital,” said dog owner Lori Uelner.

Uelner and Murphy have been a therapy team for two years at Children’s Wisconsin. Murphy makes his way through the hospital every Wednesday for two hours.

They visit children who are at the hospital for extended periods of time in hopes of raising their spirits and comforting them throughout their stay.
