Rudy and Ella, two cuddly poodles, cheer up patients for National Dog Day

Los Angeles, CA – Therapy poodles Rudy and Ella take their jobs very seriously, providing crucial support for Dignity Health Northridge Medical Center patients through kisses and cuddles. Saturday marks National Dog Day, and the hospital’s humans are grateful for these helpful pups.

“They bring comfort to the patients,” said hospital volunteer Steven Zonis, who owns Rudy and Ella. “They reduce anxiety and feelings of isolation. And believe it or not they reduce pain—because people can focus on the dogs.”

On Friday, Aug. 25, the Northridge hospital honored Rudy, Ella and its five other “dogtors” in celebration of National Dog Day. The dogs didn’t know what the fuss was over, but they were cheery nonetheless.
