DAVENPORT, IA – In senior care facilities across the nation, therapy dogs are spreading joy and companionship, but their impact goes beyond mere comfort.
At the Ivy at Davenport nursing home, a special kind of therapy was at work – one that involves wagging tails and wet noses.
“A lot of residents here are lost their autonomy, their independence, the animals bring a sense of calming to them. So as their petting they get that connection, that feeling back, so it’s just a really great therapeutic tool that we like to use,” said Dawn Bogdan, director of social services at the Ivy at Davenport.
