Team USA has named its MVP — and it’s Beacon the therapy dog

Pasadena, CA – It’s possible that no one is more well-loved by the U.S. gymnastics team than 4-year-old golden retriever Beacon.

The MVP – or “Most Valuable Pup” – has become an adored presence within the U.S. gymnastics team, serving as a therapy dog who helps athletes manage stress and maintain emotional well-being.

Though Beacon can’t travel to the Paris Olympics, his handler sent a supportive video to the team, which was enthusiastically received by the athletes. The team expressed their affection for Beacon, highlighting his role in their emotional support system.

Beacon was born in February 2020 in Michigan and was adopted at just 8 weeks old by Tracey Callahan Molnar, a 65-year-old former rhythmic gymnastics coach. Despite the challenges of peak COVID-19, Molnar made the long drive from Pasadena, California, to bring him home.
