TSA explosive detection canine at O’Hare retires after 7 years of service

CHICAGO, IL – A TSA explosive detection canine at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport is trading in her leash and vest for some well-deserved rest.

Rhea, a nine-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer and TSA explosive detection canine, has retired after seven years of service at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.

Partnered with handler George Torres since 2017, Rhea has been a key player in airport security and at major events like the Kentucky Derby and MLB All-Star Game.

As she retires, she will enjoy a restful life at home with Torres, who will continue his work at O’Hare with a new canine partner, Gorbi.

Rhea’s retirement was celebrated with toys and tennis balls, and TSA officials praised her dedication and impact on passenger safety.
