KNOXVILLE, TN – Smokey XI will only run through the traditional “T” during Tennessee Football home games this season, as caretakers prioritize his needs.
In a release, the University of Tennessee said Smokey XI is still in training and adapting to the Neyland Stadium atmosphere.
Smokey XI’s predecessor, Smokey X, retired in 2023 and now enjoys his retirement with the Hudson family, who have long been the caretakers of the line of Bluetick Coonhounds.
Born in August 2021, Smokey XI was initially slated to debut during the Fall 2022 football season but did not make an appearance. According to UT Athletics, it’s not unusual for mascots to require additional time to adapt to their new roles.
