GASTONIA, N.C. – A Gastonia police K9 named Bo, a 17-month-old bloodhound, is in the running for the American Humane Hero Dog Awards and needs public votes to advance.
Nominated in the law enforcement/first responder category, Bo has a remarkable 95% tracking success rate and has assisted in solving several cases, including locating a missing man with dementia and rescuing a 7-year-old taken at knifepoint.
His handler, Sgt. David Rowland, praises Bo’s determination and ability, describing him as a “big goofball” who enjoys his work. Rowland hopes Bo’s recognition will showcase the impact of their community’s investment in K9 training.
Voting is open until October 9, with the winner announced in January.
