JOHNSTOWN, PA – A 16-year-old dachshund named Gary was rescued from a storm drain in Pennsylvania on Tuesday after being trapped for hours.
Gary went missing from his home on Friday while his family was cleaning the garage. Local rescue workers, along with family and neighbors, began their efforts around 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, trying to coax him out using food and toys.
A high school student had alerted authorities after hearing Gary barking while waiting at a school bus stop. Despite the challenges posed by the tight space of the drain, rescue workers worked tirelessly to reach the elderly dog.
Finally, Gary was freed to cheers from the gathered crowd, wagging his tail as he was reunited with his owner, Rebecca.
