Professor Chip: The Therapy Dog Bringing Comfort and Joy to the WKU Community

Bowling Green, KY – In a world where the pressures of academic life can often feel overwhelming, one furry friend is bringing comfort and joy to students at Western Kentucky University.

“Professor” Chip, a 3-year-old cavapoo, serves as a therapy dog and emotional support animal at Western Kentucky University’s College of Education and Behavioral Sciences. He helps ease stress for students, faculty, and staff through office hours and visits to classrooms.

In addition to offering comfort, Chip plays a key role in preparing future educators by teaching them how to interact with therapy animals, bringing vital support during challenging moments.

Whether he’s playing in the snow or comforting students during finals week, Chip’s presence is a reminder of the healing power of animals in an academic setting.
