Georgia soldier reunited with dog he nursed back to health while deployed overseas

Sandy Springs, GA – A U.S. Army soldier, Specialist Landon Gnade, has been reunited with a dog named Lepo that he cared for while stationed in Kosovo.

Gnade, who was deployed in February, began helping sick and abandoned dogs left in front of the U.S. camp by locals. Although he initially didn’t expect to form a bond with the dog, he grew attached over time and developed a deep connection with Lepo.

After returning to Georgia, Gnade feared he’d have to leave the dog behind but learned about Paws of War, a nonprofit that helps soldiers bring pets home. Thanks to the organization, which has already helped reunite over 600 soldiers with their animals, Gnade and Lepo were able to be together again.

The process, which costs about $10,000 per pet, involves securing passports for the animals. Gnade expressed his gratitude for the organization’s work, emphasizing how much it means for soldiers to be reunited with their pets after such challenging deployments.
