Therapy dogs bringing comfort to jurors, staff during emotional trials

San Antonio, TX – At the Bexar County Justice Center, therapy dogs are helping to ease the emotional toll of traumatic court cases.

Happy Buttles, a local advocate and owner of standard poodles, turned to her dogs for comfort after the loss of her son and has since shared their healing power with others. Motivated by her personal experience with trauma and PTSD, Buttles and her team now attend trials to provide comfort to jurors, court staff, and others involved in distressing cases.

Judge Ron Rangel of the 379th District Court praised the program for its positive impact, with jurors noting the soothing effect of the dogs’ presence. Therapy dogs can be requested by anyone involved in a case, and Buttles remains dedicated to offering solace and support during some of life’s most challenging moments.
