A day after being rescued from Sims Bayou, Burbie the chihuahua reunites with owner

HOUSTON, TX. – A chihuahua named Burbie, who was rescued by a Houston firefighter after being stuck on a pedestrian bridge support in Sims Bayou, has been reunited with her owner.

The rescue, which was captured on video, showed Burbie initially resisting the firefighter’s help by barking and lunging at his hand before jumping into the bayou in an attempt to escape. However, she was quickly caught and brought to safety.

The family saw the rescue story on KHOU 11 and immediately recognized Burbie. They reached out, and it was revealed that Burbie had been missing since Monday after bolting out the door without a collar. Judy Hasler, who had been caring for Burbie after the rescue, returned her to the family and made sure she was taken to the vet for a microchip.
