Austin dachshund goes viral showing life on wheels, wiener dog race

AUSTIN, TX – One Austin pup — with help from his human — is using social media to share his day-to-day life as a “wheelie weenie” and encourage other pup owners with similar situations.

Teddy, an 8-year-old dachshund, became paralyzed in his hind legs due to intervertebral disk disease (IVDD), a common issue in dachshunds. His owner, Michelle Babb, noticed his symptoms during a stay near Lake Travis in 2020 when Teddy became lethargic and struggled to move. Despite initial concerns of heatstroke, Teddy’s condition worsened overnight, leading to the realization of a serious back injury. Since then, Teddy and Michelle have used social media to share his life as a “wheelie weenie,” offering support to other dog owners facing similar challenges.

His accounts show his daily routines as a paralyzed dog, his recovery and a now-viral video of his wiener dog race on wheels.

@teddythedox It will never get old seeing the smile Teddy brings to people’s faces!
