SEATTLE, WA – July 4 marks a celebration of independence across the United States.
For the non-profit Canine Companions – July 4 marks its 49th anniversary and its mission to ensure independence for everyone.
Canine Companions matches service dogs with adults, children, and veterans with disabilities, and facility dogs with professionals in healthcare, criminal justice, and education. Recently, the Puget Sound Field Office celebrated its latest graduates, including Laurie Karin and her service dog “Kit,” who has transformed her life by assisting with tasks like picking up items and providing assistance if she falls.
Canine Companions has been training dogs since 1975, with volunteers raising puppies until they enter professional training. Those interested in supporting their mission can donate or volunteer as puppy raisers, crucial for developing future service dogs.
