ASHEVILLE, N.C. – In a heart-wrenching tale of bravery and survival, a family dog named Tucker became a hero when he rescued 11-year-old Jamie Parker from a mudslide during Hurricane Helene.
Trapped under debris and fearing for his life, Jamie felt utterly alone until he heard Tucker barking, which ultimately led firefighters to him.
The mudslide struck while Jamie was at home with his grandparents and sister Jemma, leaving his grandmother terrified that everyone was lost. Jamie, buried under rubble and filled with despair, clung to the hope that Tucker would find him.
Despite the loss of their home, the family is grateful to be together and for Tucker’s incredible courage. They are now receiving support from the nursing staff and the local community, with efforts from the sheriff’s department and Habitat for Humanity to help them find a new home.
