Fishing crew rescues over 3 dozen dogs from lake

GRENADA, Miss. – A day that was supposed to be for catching fish but instead became fishing for dogs!

Bob Gist and Brad Carlisle planned a fishing trip to Grenada Lake, but their day took an unexpected turn when they encountered dozens of hound dogs stranded in the water. These dogs, equipped with radio collars and painted white for visibility, had chased a deer into the lake during a fox hunt and were unable to find their way back to shore.

With the help of local fishing guide Jordan Chrestman, Gist and Carlisle embarked on a rescue mission. They loaded 27 dogs into their boat on the first trip and retrieved 11 more on the second, ultimately saving a total of 38 dogs. The dogs had been in the water for up to an hour and were in danger of drowning.

Despite offers of money from the dog owners, Gist and his friends declined, emphasizing that they were simply in the right place at the right time to help. Their impromptu rescue operation turned what was supposed to be a fishing trip into a day of saving stranded dogs from potential tragedy.
