German Shepherd puppies born aboard SF whale-watching tour boat

San Francisco, CA – Seven German Shepherd puppies were born aboard the San Francisco Whale Tours boat “Kitty Kat” with the help of officers from the San Francisco Police Department’s Marine Unit.

The birth occurred on a Sunday morning when Capt. Joe Nazar realized his dog, Sam, was going into labor just before a whale-watching tour. Sam, who Nazar rescued a year ago, was assisted by Officer Sean Padilla during the four-hour delivery. The puppies’ father, Bear, also a German Shepherd, is Nazar’s dog.

Although Sam’s delivery was earlier than expected, she handled the birth with strong maternal instincts. Nazar plans to raise some of the puppies with his family, while others will be given to close friends, and Officer Padilla will receive the first pick.
