LOS ANGELES, CA – A judge has ruled that Conan, an 8-year-old pitbull/Labrador mix, should be returned to his owners in Burbank under strict conditions, despite finding the dog vicious and concluding that the attack on a woman earlier this year was unprovoked.
The dog’s owners, Nelson Grande and Sylvia Franco, had petitioned the court to prevent Conan’s euthanization after the city of Burbank declared him dangerous.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Alison MacKenzie ruled that while Conan is considered a vicious dog, there wasn’t enough evidence to justify putting him down. Instead, the judge imposed strict conditions for his return, including requirements for a leash and muzzle, secure confinement, and proof of rabies vaccination.
The judge also determined that the attack was unprovoked, rejecting claims that the victim had instigated the incident.
