MERCED, CA – After 56 years of service in dog years, K9 Beny is hanging up his collar and officially retiring from California Highway Patrol.
Based in Merced, Beny has served as a dual-purpose K9, with a specialty in narcotics. He helped seize over 1,000 pounds of drugs worth $10.2 million and assisted in numerous apprehensions and arrests, including a significant fentanyl seizure.
His handler, Sergeant Kensey, praised their unbreakable bond and Beny’s crucial role in many operations. Despite overcoming an ACL injury, Beny is now retiring to enjoy his days with Kensey, celebrated for his kind demeanor and community impact. His retirement wish for a big steak was fulfilled, and he looks forward to swimming and enjoying apples in his retirement.
