K9 ‘Fido’ helps find missing boy with autism, Gary police say

GARY, IN – A Gary K9 officer is being hailed as a hero after helping locate a missing 12-year-old boy with autism. The boy went missing late Sunday night, prompting a call to the police just after midnight. To assist in the search, K9 Officer Fido, a highly trained German Shepherd, was deployed. Known for his exceptional tracking skills and keen sense of smell, Fido quickly picked up the boy’s scent and led officers to his location on the grounds of Westside High School.

Thanks to Fido’s training and instincts, the boy was found safe and unharmed, and was swiftly reunited with his family. The Gary Police Department praised the efforts of the responding officers, particularly Officer A. Malinoff, and emphasized the invaluable role K9 teams play in search and rescue operations.
