Las Vegas officer adopts dog rescued from sweltering car

LAS VEGAS, NV – A dramatic rescue in the sweltering heat of Las Vegas turned into an unexpected adoption story, thanks to the compassion of a dedicated police officer.

In June, Officer Kevin Borja of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police and his partner were alerted to a distressed dog locked in a parked vehicle on a scorching 112-degree day. The dog, who was overheating and without water, was freed after Borja broke the window and rushed to give it water.

Borja’s bond with the animal was immediate, and he was determined to adopt the dog, who was later named Theodore. He checked with the shelter daily, and on the day the dog became available for adoption, Borja and his wife arrived hours early to ensure they could bring Theodore home.

His persistence paid off, and today, Theodore is happily living with Borja and his wife. Reflecting on the experience, Borja expressed how much better the dog’s life is now.
