Meet Easy: South Dakota’s Third Bomb Detection Dog Ensuring Safety at Major Events

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Easy, a new bomb detection dog, now works alongside Mitch Wiese of Tri-State Security to ensure safety at events like concerts and sports games at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.

Easy replaces Felix, the second bomb dog in South Dakota, who served for ten years before passing away. Along with Wiese, Easy searches venues for potential threats ahead of events, helping ensure the safety of spectators. Already, Easy is proving to be an excellent addition to the team.

When not working, Easy enjoys a normal dog’s life at Wiese’s home. But when it’s time to work, Easy knows it’s “go time.” Wiese hopes the public understands the safety measures in place at events, thanks to dogs like Easy.

Training bomb dogs is both expensive and time-consuming. Wiese notes that out of a litter of puppies, only one may have the drive to become a bomb dog. The initial training costs over $220,000 in the first year alone. Despite the high cost, Wiese emphasizes the importance of this work, especially in today’s uncertain world.
