Meet Simon, the Honorary Dog Mayor-Elect of New York City!

New York, NY -New York City’s quirky tradition of electing a dog mayor continues with Simon the Basset Cattle Dog, who will be sworn in as the Honorary Dog Mayor on January 19th.

Simon’s path to mayor wasn’t smooth. After losing to Enzo the Shih Tzu in the semi-finals, he took the lead when Enzo withdrew and Bertram the Pomeranian, caught in a bot voting scandal, conceded. Simon was declared the winner after the vote was delayed.

Though Simon’s role is mostly ceremonial, his victory celebrates New Yorkers’ love for dogs and community fun. Known for his feisty yet friendly nature, Simon enjoys long walks and spending time with his owner, Sophie Vershbow, in their Brooklyn neighborhood.

Recently, Simon and Sophie visited 1010 WINS, where they were presented with a special award for Simon’s win. The upcoming Indoguration Day ceremony is sure to be a fun celebration of Simon’s new title as New York City’s honorary canine leader.
