Military Working Dog Don retires at Edwards Air Force Base with medal

An 8-year-old Belgian Malinois, who was a Military Working Dog at the Edwards Air Force Base, retired this month.

Military Working Dog Don graduated from the Department of Defense Dog Training School and was adopted by an active-duty airman after the ceremony.

Over his career, Don conducted over 3,500 building checks and 2,500-foot patrols. He was awarded an Air Force Commendation Medal for his service.

Don’s skills in explosive detection led him to support 11 Secret Service missions for three U.S. Presidents and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, as well as critical sweeps for Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.

His work ensured the safety of strategic assets worth six billion dollars and protected 11,259 base personnel.
