FORT PIERCE, FL – A heartwarming rescue story emerged from a retirement community devastated by tornadoes spawned by Hurricane Milton. Lulu, a Shih Tzu, was rescued from the rubble of a destroyed home, leading to an emotional reunion with her family.
Lulu went missing after the storm struck on Wednesday night. The following morning, a neighbor discovered her, initially confusing her with another dog named Benji. CBS News Miami reporter Morgan Rynor was live on-air when Lulu was found. After a veterinary checkup for skin infections, Lulu was safely reunited with her family, who had feared she was lost.
Tragically, two residents of the home where Lulu lived were killed in the storm. However, Lulu’s sibling, a Rottweiler named Shiba, was found alive later that day.
The area had been severely damaged by multiple tornadoes, which struck within a short period of time. Over 100 search and rescue personnel were involved in the recovery efforts, which were temporarily paused due to weather conditions.
