WOODBURY HEIGHTS, NJ – A South Jersey dog groomer is facing serious charges following the suspicious death of a family’s dog this past summer.
Trevor Hunt, the owner of K9 Kingdom in Woodbury Heights, was indicted on drug charges and third-degree animal cruelty after the incident involving a three-year-old border collie-Australian shepherd mix named Harley.
The dog’s owner, Ashley Jenkins, reported that Hunt called to inform her that Harley had suddenly died during a grooming appointment, which Jenkins found hard to believe given the dog’s young age and good health.
When police arrived, Hunt allegedly became tense and attempted to delete evidence from his phone, leading to his arrest. A subsequent search of the grooming facility uncovered bags of suspected heroin, some labeled “Alien rock” and “House party III.”
Although a necropsy did not determine a cause of death, witness statements contributed to the animal cruelty charges, indicating Hunt failed to provide necessary care. He is currently being held at Salem County Jail.
