Parents sue Germantown schools, claim son’s service dog banned

MEMPHIS, TN – A lawsuit has been filed by a Germantown family against the local school district after their son’s service dog was banned from Dogwood Elementary School.

The 9-year-old boy, who has severe disabilities and daily seizures, relies on Herbie for seizure alerts. The family claims the school said the dog caused problems, like ignoring commands and causing falls, and ultimately told them Herbie was “not welcome.”

The parents argue this violates the Americans with Disabilities Act. The school district denied the allegations, stating it is committed to supporting students with disabilities and allowing service animals in schools.
