SWARTZ CREEK, MI – Luna, a golden retriever, volunteers at Swartz Creek High School alongside her handler, Jerry Brown, for seven-and-a-half hours each day, Monday through Friday.
For four years, Luna has brightened the lives of students, providing comfort and support, especially during stressful times. Trained as a therapy dog, Luna plays a crucial role in the school’s trauma-informed approach to support students. Even those who are initially afraid of dogs often warm up to her gentle nature.
Jerry, who has volunteered for 15 years in the district, started this tradition for his grandchildren. Luna’s popularity is evident, with students expressing gratitude for the support she provides, making her an invaluable part of the school community.
