Indianapolis, IN – Apache, a police dog who served for over eight years with the Indiana State Police, received a retirement ceremony after a distinguished career alongside his handler, Trooper Walter Butt.
Since joining the K-9 unit in September 2016, Apache notably took a bullet in 2017 while protecting his handler during an incident but recovered quickly. Throughout his service, he helped seize over 954 pounds of illegal drugs, 167 guns, and apprehended 84 criminals.
Apache will now enjoy retirement as a family pet with the Butt family, marking the end of his duty with a final 10-42 ceremony.
