RIC explosive detection K-9 featured in TSA’s 2025 calendar

RICHMOND, VA – Hary, a 6.5-year-old German Shepherd, has earned a spot in the TSA’s 2025 calendar, making him a local celebrity.

Hary works as an explosive detection canine at Richmond International Airport (RIC) and has been with the TSA for over a year. Alongside his handler, Kyle Smith, Hary is responsible for inspecting passengers and terminal areas for explosives.

This dynamic duo, who previously worked together at Nashville and Charlotte airports, has even participated in high-profile events, including the Super Bowl in Las Vegas. For the TSA calendar, Smith submitted several photos of Hary, and this year, one of those images was selected for the September spread.

The TSA’s 2025 calendar, available for free download, features other working canines from airports across the country. Smith also mentioned that RIC will be receiving more working dogs next year, further expanding their impressive team.
