Senior dog abandoned in Minneapolis reunited with previous owner

Minneapolis, MN – In a heartwarming tale of reunion and redemption, Lincoln, a 13-year-old dachshund-Chihuahua mix, has journeyed from abandonment to the embrace of a familiar face.

Once a playful puppy, Lincoln now finds himself 10 pounds overweight and struggling to walk far. But hope shines through as he grows stronger, recently managing to climb three flights of stairs.

Lincoln’s story took a poignant turn when he was found tied to a fence in Minneapolis with a bag of food. The Minneapolis Animal Care and Control connected him to his former owner, Julia Schmitt. The Twin Cities woman reunited with her dog, Lincoln, after 13 years apart. Their emotional reunion, captured on TikTok, quickly went viral.

As they embraced, Schmitt faced the bittersweet reality of Lincoln’s aging. The playful puppy she remembered had become a sweet old man, stirring feelings of guilt for rehoming him. After some grooming and new toys, Lincoln’s time with Schmitt was brief, as her aunt and uncle offered him a loving home.

Now, Lincoln is set for a hopeful new chapter in Chicago, where Schmitt hopes he will enjoy comfort, good food, and more exercise in his golden years.
