Service with a smile: Sweet therapy dog Taco brings comfort to Flagler County Fire Rescue

Flagler County, FL – Taco, a 5-year-old Corgi, became Flagler County Fire Rescue’s first therapy dog after completing training at Paws and Stripes College.

Adopted by Community Paramedic Rob Errett during the pandemic, Taco has since joined the FCFR’s peer support and critical incident teams, providing emotional support during stressful situations. Taco’s role mostly involves offering comfort through his sweet personality, with no words needed.

The therapy dog program was introduced after the county administrator’s suggestion, and Taco and Errett were selected for training. The 40-hour course, developed by Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, prepares K-9s and their handlers to assist first responders and others in emotional distress. Taco’s presence has already shown positive effects, and FCFR may expand the program in the future.
