St. Louis, MO – Stray Paws Rescue, a Missouri-based nonprofit, is helping a severely abused dog named Mila from Texas.
After being beaten with baseball bats, Mila suffered devastating injuries, including a broken and necrotic upper jaw. Stray Paws learned about Mila through a Facebook post by a Texas rescue and coordinated her transport to St. Louis via Pilots n’ Paws, avoiding the stress of a long car ride.
Once there, foster mom Lori Alden took Mila in. She battled heartworm, cancer, and the risk of aspiration due to her injuries. After months of treatment, including chemo and reconstructive surgery, Mila recovered enough to eat and breathe normally.
The ongoing medical costs are covered by donations, which also help Stray Paws save nearly 900 animals each year, despite a flood that nearly shut them down two years ago.
