Therapy dogs help ease the stress of finals week at University of Montana

Missoula, MT – During finals week at the University of Montana, students are finding comfort and stress relief in the company of therapy dogs.

The therapy dogs, Gidge the Border Collie and Boomkin the Golden Retriever, visit the Mansfield Library to provide a calming presence for students in need of a mental break. Students appreciate the therapeutic benefits, with one noting that it helps with de-stressing.

Gidge’s owner, Katie Connelly, explains that petting dogs can boost mental health by releasing endorphins. UM’s Wellness Director, Kayli Julius, emphasizes the importance of these activities, especially for first-year students facing the pressures of finals.
