Therapy dogs join campus police force at SUNY Plattsburgh

Plattsburgh NY – SUNY Plattsburgh is welcoming three therapy dogs to its campus police force: Reva the yellow lab, Izzy the chocolate lab, and Caamp the golden retriever.

University Police Chief Patrick W. Rascoe announced that the university has introduced three therapy dogs, which have been highly successful in fostering better relationships between campus police and students.

Officer Tina Bedard noted that the presence of therapy dogs helps break down barriers and makes officers more approachable, leading to increased student interaction.

The dogs, currently finishing a year of training, have already had a positive impact since their introduction a few months ago, with students, officers, and the community all showing strong support.

The program allows students, faculty, and staff to request the dogs for events, and Officer Bedard’s own dog, Caamp, enjoys coming to work and receiving attention from the campus community.
