Vermont therapy dog K-9 Duke launches his second book

RICHMOND, VT – K-9 Duke, who serves with the Williston Police Department in Vermont, is part of a unique Comfort Dog Program.

As the only comfort dog in the state, Duke has played a vital role in helping first responders and the community cope with stress during emergencies. He and his handler, Corporal Matthew Cohen, provide emotional support during difficult situations such as floods, fires, and mental health crises.

In addition to his on-duty role, Duke has inspired the creation of two books to raise funds for the Comfort Dog Program, which is entirely supported by donations and fundraising events, ensuring the program remains independent of taxpayer funding.

Corporal Cohen notes that Duke brings comfort and joy to tense emergency scenes, lightening the mood and easing emotional burdens. The program continues to thrive thanks to strong community support and ongoing fundraising efforts.
