Family grateful for community’s support in finding missing dog on the McKenzie River

SPRINGFIELD, OR – A Springfield family is still shocked that small, six-year-old miniature corgi was found after being missing on the McKenzie River for three days.

On July 27, Jeff Peterson, his friend, and his corgi Lily went kayaking on the McKenzie River. Despite Lily’s kayaking experience and swimming ability, the kayaks capsized in rough water.

Peterson lost sight of Lily and, after searching the shore without success, panic set in. Over the next three days, the search for Lily involved family, friends, volunteers, and online efforts.

Meg Solon, Peterson’s wife, was initially pessimistic about finding Lily but remained hopeful. On July 29, a local boater who had seen online posts about Lily found her on an island, tangled in grass.

Fortunately, Lily was unharmed and did not suffer from hypothermia. The Petersons are grateful for the community’s support and caution others about river safety.
