ORLANDO, FL – Macy, an 8-year-old therapy dog, and her handler, Bear Berman, are heading to Georgia to support survivors of a deadly school shooting.
As part of the Crisis Response Canines group, their mission is “strength through comfort.” Macy helps open lines of communication, allowing people to process their emotions and recognize the impact of tragic events.
Berman explained that interactions with Macy can reduce stress by lowering blood pressure and heart rate while increasing oxytocin levels, helping people feel supported and connected. Macy has previously assisted survivors of other mass shootings, offering comfort in times of great tragedy.
